Plug in style turbo timers plug into the existing connectors which link the ignition switch to the vehicle wiring. These can be located on the back of the ignition switch, in line near the ignition switch, on a connector mounting bracket, or on the back of the fuse panel.
The following are the most common reasons a turbo timer will not work when it has been just installed.
The black earth wire needs to be earthed correctly and the green wire (park brake interface) needs to be connected to the park brake or earthed. The timer will not operate if either of these are not done.
The timer will also not operate unless the engine has been running for a minimum of 30 seconds. This a deliberate safety feature to ensure that the timer does not operate where the engine is inadvertently started.
If, after following the installation instructions included with the timer and checking the

Why does my remote central locking not work?
With most modern vehicles the remote central locking is disabled whenever the engine is running. This only applies to the remote itself on the ignition key or keyring. This is to prevent unwanted flashing of blinkers or sounding of the horn while driving.
Where a turbo timer is fitted to provide an engine idle period, the remote locking may be disabled until the end of the idle period. The vehicle may still be locked using the ignition key at the drivers door, employing the central locking.
However, where the law requires, the driver should remain seated in the vehicle until completion of the engine idle period.
Can I get a replacement turbo timer control unit?
Yes, control units are available as a separate part from your
dealer. However, you must identify the series of the timer (624, 724, 725, 925 series) This is normally printed on the white label on the top of the main timer module. Control units will only work with the correct module from the same series.
TURBO TIMERS - WIRE IN TYPES
We regularly assist customers who are having issues when installing wire-in type turbo timers. These issues are often related to one of the following topics.
1. Ensure that the correct timer model is selected.
- Each model of turbo timer is designed to suit vehicles with specific characteristics. Use of the incorrect timer model for a vehicle may result in damage to both the timer and the vehicle. These are not included in the timer warranty.
- There is a comprehensive range of plug-in timers to suit most popular late model passenger vehicles. Where available, these should be used in preference to wire-in timers.
- Guides listing the correct timer type for a wide range of vehicles and vehicle types, including passenger vehicles, 4WD vehicles, light commercial vehicles, trucks, earthmoving machinery, tractors and forklifts are available on our Turbo Timer page.
- As an alternative to the guides, we provide telephone assistance to ensure correct product selection from 8:00 am - 5:30 pm EST Monday - Friday.
2. Check the maximum potential load on the timer before installation.
- The maximum current drain on any one timer output cannot exceed 10 amps.
- Checking the maximum load includes turning on all ancillary functions such as air conditioning, fans, lights, etc. If any doubt exists about the potential load on the timer, introduce a relay to carry the current.
3. Ensure there are no faults in the vehicle ignition wiring before installation.
- Faults in either the ignition system or wiring of the vehicle into which the timer is installed can cause a voltage spike which may damage the timer, preventing it from operating.
- Damage from these types of vehicle faults are not included in the timer warranty.
4. Ensure the installation instructions are followed in full.
- Each timer has installation instructions included with it. These need to be followed in full to ensure that the timer will operate.
- In particular, ensure that the black wire is properly connected to earth and that the green (parking brake interface) wire has been connected or earthed. The timer will not operate if either of these are ignored.
5. When testing after installation, ensure that the engine runs for at least 30 seconds.
- The turbo timer will not operate unless the engine has been operating for a minimum of 30 seconds. This is a deliberate feature, to ensure that the timer does not operate where the engine is accidentally or inadvertently started.
6. Ensure that when installed, the timer is in a weatherproof location.
- Timer parts are reasonably dust and moisture resistant. However they are not designed for installation in locations exposed to the weather, such as open cabin vehicles.
- Installation in these types of locations will result in the failure of the timer due either to moisture damage or corrosion of the timer components.
- For open cabin vehicles it may be necessary to mount the timer control module in a weatherproof enclosure.
7. Do not substitute parts from other timers.
- The main module and control module for each series of timers (724 series, 725 series & 925 series) operate only with other parts from that series. They will not work with parts from any other series.
8. Do not attempt to repair the timer.
- All timers are provided with a 24 month unlimited kilometre warranty. This is voided if the timer modules are opened or repairs to them are attempted.

DIGITAL SPEEDOMETERS
Why does my HillSpeed HUD 05 give a different speed reading to my vehicle speedometer?
If calibrated correctly, (for example with a GPS receiver or on a dyno) the HillSpeed HUD 05, gives a completely accurate speed display. The vehicle speedometer is permitted by Australian Design Rules, for all speeds above 40 km/h, to have an accuracy of +/- 10%.
Is the speed shown on my HillSpeed HUD 09 correct?
Where the HillSpeed HUD 09 can access sufficient GPS satellites (3 minimum), the display operates and is updated once per second. The displayed speed will be correct and accurate. Where the vehicle is accelerating quickly or braking (slowing) quickly, the displayed speed will lag behind the actual vehicle speed until the display next updates.
Is the speed displayed on my HillSpeed HUD 09 correct on steep hills?
The slope of the ground (or roads) on which a vehicle is travelling gives no practical difference to either the correct speed or the speed displayed on the HillSpeed HUD 09. Even on a steep slope of 1 in 8 (12.5% slope), the difference between the horizontal distance and the distance measured on the slope is less than 8 metres in each kilometre (0.778%).
When starting for the first time each day, my HillSpeed HUD 09 takes a long time to start displaying the speed. Is this normal?
After being turned off for a long period of time (such as overnight), the HillSpeed HUD 09 needs to scan to find the positions of the GPS satellites. It does this when it first starts up and normally takes about 30 seconds before the speed display is shown. If the vehicle starts to move before the scan has been completed (while the display is still cycling in a rotating pattern), then the start up scan can take much longer. It is recommended that the vehicle remain stationary until the HUD 09 has completed its start up scan and the speed display is shown.
